Anyone know of a package that I can install on Ubuntu (9.04) that will let me connect my serial port to a KISS mode TNC and do standard AX25 packet radio? I found at least one that is a tar ball that if I have too I will play with but I would rather have something that was designed to work with apt-get or the Debian installer. Thanks in advance for any pointers you can supply.

Good Morning – Which version of Ubuntu are you running?

    - IF you go into System > Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager ->
Under the Amateur Radio (Universe) sub menu – you will find a lot of AX25 programs and stuff
I have not gotten it to work correctly thou -
My understanding that Ubuntu, unlike a standard linux – has the AX25 disabled in the kernel itself – and you have to use a different kernel to get AX25 to work – My understanding is that an older version of Ubuntu (5.04) may have it already activated in the kernel and you will not need to "mess around" –
I know you are asking on a Ham site because of the software you want to run :
), but there are a bunch of Ham’s on the Ubuntu Forums – you probably will have better luck with the question on the forums

Wish I could be more help to you….
