Hello all….been a bit since I’ve blogged. I have new pics up,check them out if ya want. Field Day for us was great! Not sure how many
contacts we made but we had a blast! I forgot to bring my cam,gut some of the others had theirs and maybe I can convince one of them to email me a few. I got there Fri night, about 5-6 pm. Just as I set my tent up,a T-storm came thru. I had to take ALL my stuff
and put it in my car! The wind was blowing SO HARD the back of my tent, which is pretty big,can sleep 6,was actually touching the i
inside of the front of my tent! I used big thick plastic stakes otherwise my tent would have taken off and God only knows where
it for have landed! lol….The shack and the rest of the upstairs has beed sheet rocked. We need to put flooring down and paint.
Maybe not in that order, but thats what we have to do. Can’t wait to get my antennas up! Catch ya soon,73….De,N2RAI,Joe

VE3CH (Greg) VE3CH (Greg) Field Day 2009

Over the 21 years that I’ve been a ham, one of my favourite activities has always been Field Day. Nothing seems to speak to the spirit of amateur radio better than a group of hams cooperating together to set up temporary stations in simulated emergency conditions. Then spend 24 hours with friends doing a little operating, a little socializing and enjoying some fine Field Day cuisine. Years back, I was the Field Day Manager for a club I was involved with and thoroughly enjoyed seeing things come together. In recent years my level of involvement has been limited by family and sometimes work concerns. This year, Murphy’s Law again kicked in as an out-of-town family gathering meant I wasn’t able to take part except for a few hours on the Saturday evening. None-the-less it was a blast and I’m doing my best to keep the calendar clear for next year.

I’ve posted a bunch of photos from this year’s event on my blogsite at ve3ch.blogspot.com. It documents the Field Day operations of VE3RL, operated jointly by the Quinte Amateur Radio Club and the Prince Edward Radio Club. For the past several years the two clubs have joined forces for Field Day and this year the guys decided to have Field Day….in an actual field!

It seems the midwest U.S. is (still?) more active in ham radio than other regions of the U.S.

Maybe I’m missing out on the “in” bands and events?

Sorry for the long reply time. Things have been a bit hectic. Sharon and I live near 48th and Elliot. I am a “plankowner” having bought my home new in 1979. I hang out at Lilo’s Coffee on the east facing east end of the Safeway plaza there. Buy ya a coffee some morning?

I D-Star’d you again around 8-8:30pm PHX time. Still experimenting with the DS repeaters in the Tampa area. I will try again tomorrow (or today) whatever it is…

Hey Kevin,

Our Field Day was great- 1000+ contacts (5A). 6 meters opened the last hour of contesting and I managed to grab 42 contacts. 6M is my favorite band.

I too am a photographer, well, I was a photographer, but I’m getting back into it. (long story). I’m trying to to grab a little journalism work but with an art degree and this economy, its a little tough.

Anywho, I just wanted to say hi. Its nice to see such a great photograph on 73s. I had to give credit where credit was due.

73s!
